Bruce Carl Fitzgerald Obituary
Fitzgerald, Bruce Carl; of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan; passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Woodland Hospice near Mt. Pleasant. Bruce was born on Tuesday, December 23, 1930 in Lansing, Michigan the son of Carl William and Flora Belle (Strauser) Fitzgerald. On April 19, 1958 he married Yvonne Lee Peterson at the People’s Church in East Lansing, Michigan. Bruce was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mt. Pleasant where he sang in the choir and was active in church activities. Bruce was the owner of B&Y Janitor Service for many years. He collected cars and comic books, enjoyed deer hunting and coffee with the guys. He had his own big band that played jazz music when he got out of the Army. He very much enjoyed landscaping. Bruce was a veteran of the US Army, serving as a corporal in Korean War in the early 1950’s. Survivors include his wife, Yvonne; three children, Kevin Bruce and Sharon Fitzgerald of Midland, Craig Michael Fitzgerald of Chicago and Kimberlee Kay Fitzgerald of Midland; two grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth Fitzgerald of South Dakota and Derek Kevin Fitzgerald of Mt. Pleasant; two great grandchildren, Brennen William and Aubrey Neva Trongo; also surviving are three sisters, Ruby and George Wakulsky of St. Johns, Shirley DeLoach of Texas and Joanie and Don Meabom of Arizona; many nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Yvette and Don Ruddy of Lansing. Bruce was preceded in death by both parents; and a brother, Jack Leroy Fitzgerald. Services Celebrating Bruce’s Life will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at 11 a.m. from the Zion Lutheran Church, 3401 East River Road with Pastors Samuel Reith and Jonathon Bakker officiating. Interment will follow the ceremony in Memorial Gardens. Friends will gather with the family on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 7 to 9 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Memorial contributions have been suggested to Zion Lutheran Church or Woodland Hospice. Envelopes are available at Zion Lutheran Church or Rowley Funeral Home.
