Donald Junior Acker, 80, died unexpectedly at his home on Monday, May 30, 2011.|
He was born June 19, 1930, in Gratiot County to Cecil B. and Mary I French Acker. He has lived in the Goshen area since 1958. On October 26, 1957, he married Joan Siebert in Lansing. She survives with three sons, David (Adonna) Acker, Elkhart, Michael Acker, Goshen, and Patrick Acker, Shipshewana; two sisters, Wanda Wenzel, LaGrange, and Joanne Badge, Greenville; six grandchildren and 20 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother, Rozella Pascoe, Leola Acker and Walter Acker. Mr. Acker entered the Army in 1952, and served for two years before entering Michigan State University in East Lansing. He graduated in 1958, and joined Comfo Sleep, Inc in Wakarusa, Ind. In 1963, he started Jone Furniture, Inc also in Wakarusa and in 1969, he purchased T&M Rubber, Inc. in Goshen. In 1982, he started Michiana Mattress.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 210 in Middlebury, Ind. The service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Yoder-Culp Funeral Home. The Pastor Ed Arnold of Pine Ridge Bible Church will officiate. After the service, military honors will be given.
Burial will be at Richlawn Cemetery in Breckinridge. Memorials may be made to The Window or to Wheelchair Help. A burial at Richlawn Cemetery will be at 3:00 pm Friday.
