Evangeline Cole, age 98, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Monday, August 26, 2013, at Tendercare in Mt. Pleasant.
A Funeral Mass for Evangeline will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, August 30, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Loren Kalinowski presiding. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Lux Family Life Story Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. and at the church on Friday one hour prior to Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church or the Commission on Aging. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Evangeline was born Dec. 20, 1914, in Disco, Michigan, daughter of the late Frank J. and Margaret (Rohloff) Beals. Her first marriage to Philip F. O'Hare on August 25, 1934, produced one son, Philip. She later married James Cole on Oct. 9, 1950 in Essexville.
Evangeline was employed at Ferro Manufacturing as a press operator for 16 years. She then worked for CMU in the food service department for 13 years, retiring in 1976. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish and a very willing volunteer. She devoted much of her time to the Commission on Aging and to Special Olympics. Some of her favorite pastimes were quilting, crocheting, knitting, woodworking, reading, and in her younger years, bowling.
She is survived by a son, Philip (Donna) O'Hare of Midland; granddaughter, Deborah Hill; two great-grandsons, Ryan and Arlum; one great-great grandson, Mason; sister, Viola Van Der Donckt of Texas; sister-in-law, Martha O'Hare of Estey; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, James Cole in 1980; step-daughter, Alice Cole; step-son, Roy O'Hare; three sisters, Julia Frazho, Bernadine Scholfield, and Helen Fleiger; and brother, Frank Beals.
