James R. Moore, age 67, of Elwell, passed away Thursday, September 19, 2013, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Gratiot.
Funeral Services for Jim will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 22nd at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma with Pastor George Showers officiating. Interment will be in Pritchard Cemetery, Elwell. Visitation will be held Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Pardee Cancer Committee or Alma College Football.
Jim was born November 1, 1945 in Pontiac the son of Richard Irving and Mary Ann (Blue) Moore. He graduated from Pontiac Central High School in 1963, where he excelled in football. He was known as the "Toe" for his kicking prowess in football. Jim went on to attend Alma College where he played football and was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He married Carole Brand on August 30, 1969, celebrating their 44th wedding anniversary this past August. Jim enlisted in the Air Force, before graduating, and spent four years stationed at Wurtsmith Air Force Base in Oscoda with the Strategic Air Command. After his honorable discharge in 1972, he returned to Alma College and graduated in 1973 with a Bachelors of Arts Degree. After graduation, he went to work for Morbark Industries in Winn, MI, and was involved in many departments including Purchasing, and Research and Development retiring in 2005.
Jim served as a longtime Advisory Board member for the TKE chapter at Alma College. He was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Pine River Country Club where he recorded a hole-in-one on #17. He was also a member of the Alma Elks Lodge and formerly with the Riverdale Jaycees. Jim was also an avid American history buff and enjoyed traveling with his wife, visiting all 48 states in the Continental U.S.
He is survived by his wife, Carole; son, Scott (Kimberly) Moore of Petoskey; daughter, Jennifer (Scott) Marshall of Brentwood, Tennessee; five grandsons, triplets, Easton, Callaway and Reed Moore and Payne and Carter Marshall and sister, Michelle (Roger "Skip") Webber of Woodstock, Georgia; also two nephews; and one great niece.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Susan Louise Bruce.
