Richard Barz, age 83, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013, at his residence.
His funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at Lux Family Life Story Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Lance of Lighthouse Apostolic Church officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the service begins. Cremation will follow and his ashes will be interred in Memorial Gardens Cemetery with military honors on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 1 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Toys for Tots (P.O. Box 691, Mt. Pleasant MI 48804-0691), a charity that Dick devoted many years of his life to.
Dick was born July 11, 1930, in Mt. Pleasant, son of the late Leo T. and Edna A. (Fosgitt) Barz. He attended Mt. Pleasant Public Schools before enlisting in the U.S. Marines. He served during the Korean War from 1948-1952 as a Staff Sergeant and was a life member of the Mt. Pleasant VFW Post 3033 and most importantly, a member of the Chosin Few.
He married Chris Inman on May 10, 1975 at Sacred Heart Church. He owned and operated Barz North American for 18 years, retiring in 2003.
Dick is survived by three children, Richard Lee (Geraldine) Barz of Warren, Lucinda (Dave) Clark of Mt. Pleasant, and Melinda Epperson of Mt. Pleasant; seven grandchildren, Tina Barz, Richard J. Barz, David Clark, Skylar Clark, William Wentworth, Nicole (Nicholas) Rogers, and Lucinda "Tasha" Wentworth; three great grandchildren, Jamison Clark, Hallie Wentworth and Takoda Shawnoo; five siblings, Rita Moline, Mary Baughmann, Dani (Leon) McDonald, and Rose Marie (Bill) Sprague, all of Mt. Pleasant and Wayne (Bev) Barz of Mesa, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Chris in 1988; and brother and sister-in-law, William and Aynne Barz.
