RichardFrank Kequom Obituary
KEQUOM, FRANK; age 92; of Mt. Pleasant passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the Andahwod Senior Living. Funeral Services for Frank will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Doyle Perry officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodland Cemetery. A Luncheon will follow in Reflections Reception Center. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 18, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m. with a Prayer Service starting at 8 p.m. Visitation will continue the day of the service from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel. Frank was born on August 5, 1921 in Hart, raised in Manistique the son of Joseph and Susan (Sharkey) Kequom. Frank was a member of the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians and proudly served his country during WWII in the South Pacific Campaign in the United States Army. Frank was injured and critically wounded resulting in a back injury during his tour of duty and became a disabled veteran. Frank was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, W.W.II Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Honorable Service Lapel Button. He married Phyllis Pego on June 20, 1950 in Rosebush. Frank owned and operated his own trucking transportation company for several years before working for the State of Michigan in the Department of Corrections as a Supervisor at Camp Lehman for 28 years. Frank enjoyed extensive traveling in his RV across North America for over 20 years and loved to spend time outdoors, hunting and fishing. Frank is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Audrey (Ron) Falcon, Bonnie (Ron) Ekdahl, Patty (Mark Heron) Kequom, Joe (Marje) Kequom, Susan Kequom, and Tom Kequom, all of Mt. Pleasant; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Frank was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Dennis, Gertrude, Isaac, Elsie, and Tony; grandson, Mark “Ben” Heron; and great-grandson, Jayce Heron-Hinmon.
