Dorothea married David Ralph Bergquist at the Weidman family farm on September 5, 1937 and was married for nearly 45 years upon his death in 1982.

Pleasant and Dorothea worked at Oren's Department Store and Ferro Stamping Company before taking a position at Central Michigan University in 1960. She retired from CMU in 1971. Over the years she served in many volunteer activities including Cub Scouts, Business and Professional Women's Association and Youth Study Club. She was also a member of Eastern Star and Rebecca's. For many years following their retirements they spent winters in Zephyrhills, FL, where she helped to organize CMU staff reunions. She served as a caregiver for her mother, a neighbor and her husband. As a founding member of the Mt. Pleasant Community Church she participated in many church activities. She was noted for her delicious pies and provided them for numerous bake sales and for friends. She enjoyed spending time with family and helping others by taking in food or encouraging them with phone calls. She will be remembered by her frequent statement, "thanks a million."
