Dorothy L. Brewster, age 91, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan died on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Woodland Hospice near Mt. Pleasant.
Dorothy was the eldest of six children, born to Ralph and Gladys (Wolfe) Stiles on January 24, 1921. She was a graduate of Alma High School in 1939. Following graduation, she moved to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan where she worked in the office of the Roosevelt Refinery for two years at which time she married Carl Brewster on August 30, 1941. One child was born from this union, Sharon Brewster Deni. Dorothy was a member of the Eastern Star Wabon Lodge #55, a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, and the First United Methodist Church. She also was a volunteer for the Thrift Shop in Mt. Pleasant. She received a B.S. in Education from CMU. She and her daughter, Sharon, attended CMU at the same time, both graduating on the same day in January 1964. That same month Dorothy started her teaching career, and taught at Pullen School in Mt. Pleasant for eighteen years, until her retirement in 1981. Her hobbies were fishing, quilting, reading, gardening, playing bridge, collecting antiques and traveling. She and her husband traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Paul) Deni; one granddaughter, Lisa Deni (Phillip) Christopher; one great grandson, Connor Lewanowicz; a sister, JoAnn Moffitt; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, after sixty-four years of marriage; and four brothers.
A Service Celebrating Dorothy's Life will be held on Monday, November 5, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Rowley Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Cindy Skutar of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow the service in Riverside Cemetery, beside her husband, Carl. Friends may gather with the family on Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 3 to 6 p.m. and again on Monday from 10 a.m. until the service time. An Order of the Eastern Star Service will be held on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions have been suggested to Woodland Hospice or the Isabella County Commission on Aging. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
