Douglas Hull Obituary
Hull, Douglas Sr.; age 66; of rural Ithaca; died Saturday, August 9, 2014, at his home. Doug was born November 18, 1947, the eldest child of Howard and Dorita (Snook) Hull. He died at a place he lived and loved, the original Hull Farm Homestead east of Ithaca. Doug attended Sickles Country School and graduated from Ithaca High School in 1966. While there he became known as a formidable opponent, excelling in football, wrestling, and track. He became known as “Horbie”, a nickname that followed him and his high school friends throughout life.Doug was active in 4-H for many years, becoming an excellent woods craftsman. Also during his childhood, he developed into an accomplished pianist and superb accordion player. Doug’s skills extended to Future Farmers of America with leadership positions as Chapter President and earning the FFA State Farmer Award. After graduation he became a member of the Michigan National Guard and farmed. Doug was born into farming, and he was a natural. He worked with his father, Howard, then his brother, Sidney, and eventually his son, Doug, Jr. Doug was an outdoorsman, enjoying waterskiing, hunting, and fishing. He especially loved hunting camp at the family cabin near Gladwin. His big heart and large wonderful meals he prepared for family and friends will sadly be missed during deer season. Doug happily rode his Harley Davidson near and far; establishing friendships wherever he went. His children were his joy and they will miss him greatly. Surviving are Doug Jr. (Deanna) of Ithaca, Heidi (Brian) Lauer of Coopersville, MI, and Brandon (Jennifer) of Perrinton. His grandchildren always made him laugh, smile, and put a sparkle in his eye. They are Anna and Mara Lauer, Hattie and Hayden Hull, and Ethan Hull. Doug had a blessed childhood growing up with his siblings and large circle of cousins. Their antics were only limited to their imaginations, of which there was plenty, Surviving is lifelong cousin and friend, Charlie Teegarden of Ithaca; siblings Sid (Cheryl Hull of Ithaca, Darci (Gary) Honaman of Merrill, and Sue (Jeff) Baker of St. Louis. Doug had many nieces and Nephews who will miss his loving spirit. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the Edgewood Church of God, with Pastor Dave Perry officiating. Interment will follow in Hamilton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Barden Funeral Home in Ithaca. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cure PSP organization which supports research for types of atypical Parkinson’s Disease, such as Corticobasal Degeneration (CBD), which took his life.
