George Elmer Grim, of Shepherd, passed away December 12, 2012 at Woodland Hospice. He was 84 years of age. George was born March 5, 1928 to Arthur Charles and Edith Pearl (Johnson) Grim on Grandpa Grim's 40 acres north of Blanchard.
When he was six weeks old, the family moved to Lansing. After a couple of years, they moved to Battle Creek for a short stay, at the time, George's father decided to go into business, in the car repair business for himself in Comstock, Michigan, just east of Kalamazoo. In 1943 when he was 15 years old, they moved to Shepherd and his father bought out his grandfather in the printing - newspaper business. In April of 1948, George and his father became partners in the Isabella County Republican, now the Shepherd Argus.
George married Geraldine Ruth Rhode on June 4, 1948. They had two sons, John and Jack. Geraldine passed away on April 20, 2002. He married Mary Garcia Struble on June 5, 2006.
George was a life member of the Masonic Lodge. He was pleased to serve on several elective boards, President of the Shepherd Chamber of Commerce, Mayor of Shepherd, a Trustee on the Shepherd School Board, Supervisor of Chippewa Township, representative of three counties on the State Township Board and drove a school bus for Shepherd Schools.
George is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, John (Marilee), Jack (Brenda) Grim; five grandsons, Arthur Grim and Phillip (Meagan) Grim, Shane Grim, Scott Grim and Sheldon Grim; and great granddaughter, Gracie Grim; step-children, Kim (Gail) Struble, Timothy (Carolyn) Struble, Rex (Debra) Struble, Linda (Jeff) Swenson; step-grandchildren, Brittany, Benjamin, Anbria, Kenna, Aaron, Chad, Melissa, Jason; step- great grandchildren, Riley, Melaunie, Gage, Ryan, Thomas, Samuel, Vance and Alex; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 2 to 8 p.m. at The Berry Funeral Home. A Masonic Service will be Thursday, December 13, 2012 at 6:45 p.m. at The Berry Funeral Home.
Funeral Services for George will be held Friday, December, 14, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Westlawn Church of Christ with Minister Gene Beavers officiating.
Memorials may be made to Westlawn Church of Christ or the Maple Syrup Festival. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
