Dr. Gerald C. Carter Obituary
Dec. 21, 1916 - April 10, 2013

Dr. Gerald C. Carter, age 96 of Weidman, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center, Clare. Gerald was born on December 21, 1916 in Surrey, England, the son of Wilfred E. and Evelyn M. Tulley Carter.
Gerald was a resident of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan since 1970. He was an English Professor at Central Michigan University for 27 years before his retirement in 1997. On November 22, 1973, he married Joyce Weakland in Mt. Pleasant. Joyce preceded him in death in 2004.
Gerald was a veteran of the Royal British Air Force as a navigator from 1939 until 1945. He built his own home, was an excellent woodworker, loved sailing and traveling, enjoyed reading, and had a 6,000 volume library.
Gerald is survived by his daughter, Robin (Craig) Williams of California; a son, Randy (Ophelia) Carter; and four grandchildren, Maureen and Gavin Williams and Gabriela and Charles Carter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Maureen; and his wife, Joyce.
A Memorial Service for Dr. Carter will be held on Friday, May 3, 2013 at 3 p.m. from the Rowley Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Rev. Nancy Casey-Fulton and Rev. Gib Giblin officiating. Interment will take place in St. Bernard Cemetery in Hastings, Pennsylvania. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Dr. Joyce Carter Scholarship Fund at the Mt. Pleasant Community Foundation. Envelopes are available at Rowley Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant.
