Gerald J. "Jerry" Turnwald, age 93, of Shepherd, passed away Monday, December 9, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.
Funeral Services will be Friday, December 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church in Shepherd with Fr. Fred Kawka and Deacon Mike Smith officiating. Interment will be in St. Vincent DePaul Cemetery. There will be a Scripture Service Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at St. Vincent DePaul Church. Visitation will be Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church.
Jerry was born May 22, 1920 in Hudson, MI to Edward and Tharsilla (Fredrick) Turnwald. He married Frances (Moeggenborg) Maas July 10, 1948 at St. Vincent DePaul Church in Shepherd. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Jerry moved to Shepherd from Ohio in the early 1940's. He first worked at Motor-Wheel in Lansing before starting farming on the farm near Shepherd where he and his wife, Frances have lived for the past 65 years. Jerry's family was the most important thing in his life.
Jerry is survived by 6 children, Rich (Mary Kay) Maas of Shepherd, Mary Beth (Terry Hall) Buckley of Traverse City, Terry (Kathie) Turnwald of Shepherd, Debra (Rex) Struble of Shepherd, Mike (Deb) Turnwald of Shepherd; Ann Ramon of Shepherd; 18 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren; one sister, Theresa Becker; and 2 brothers, Art (Joan) Turnwald and Don (Martha) Turnwald; and a sister-in-law, Mart Turnwald, all of Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Gilbert and Paul Turnwald; and a sister, Mary Moeggenborg, and an infant sister, Ruth Ann.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Berry Funeral Home in Shepherd.
