James Charles "Jim" Baker, age 50, of St. Louis, passed away Friday, May 18, 2012, at his home.
Jim was born June 24, 1961, in Alma the son of John and Jane (Danforth) Baker. He was a 1979 graduate of St. Louis High School and went on to earn a two-year degree from Michigan State University in Agriculture Science. On July 16, 1983, he married Lori Dickinson in East Lansing. Jim worked for the Michigan Livestock Exchange for 15 years, before starting his own company, Great Lakes Cattle Marketing, which he has run for the past 12 years.
He was a member of the Michigan FFA Foundation Board, Alma Elks Lodge #1400, past member of both the Michigan Cattleman's Association Board of Directors, and the Gratiot County Fair for Youth Board of Directors. Jim enjoyed playing golf, snow skiing, and was an avid Michigan State sports fan. He also enjoyed traveling and three years ago finished visiting all 50 states. Jim especially loved being with his family.
Jim is survived by his wife, Lori of St. Louis; two children, Jami and Dustin Baker both of East Lansing; his parents, John and Jane Baker of St. Louis; a brother, Jeff (Sue) Baker of St. Louis; a niece, Nora; and two nephews, John and Cody.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in St. Louis with Pastor George Showers officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Alma. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan FFA Foundation or Michigan State University, College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.
