Jeanne M. Torpey, age 79, of Alma, passed away Sunday, April 28, 2013 at the Warwick Living Center in Alma.
Jeanne was born January 14, 1934 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Edward and Yvonne (Sawyer) Breidenstein. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School, the class of 1952. Jeanne retired from Cable Vision in Alma and also worked various jobs at the A and P Store, IGA in St. Louis, Vescio's Grocery and the American Red Cross.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Alma and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alma and volunteered and helped in any way she could. She loved time spent at School Section Lake with her family and friends. Jeanne enjoyed reading, doing cross word and jig-saw puzzles, gardening, Tigers baseball and her cat Angel.
She is survived by her children, Edward "Duffy" (Susan) Torpey of Centerville, OH., Yvonne "Vonnie" Torpey of Sumner, Marguerite "Margie" Mahoney of Seabrook, NH., Gwen (Warren) Listul of Calhan, CO., Leo "LT" (Marlene) Torpey of Elwell, Sue Miller of St. Louis; nine grandchildren; and four great grandsons; also twin sister, Virginia "Ginny" Cornell of Alma and sister Vicki (Matt) Winger of GA.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mildred Breidenstein; sons-in-law, Randy Miller and William Mahoney; and former husband Elton Torpey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alma with Fr. Jim Bessert officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 7:30 p.m. at the Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the
