Obituary Condolences

July 5, 1932 - Jan. 13, 2014

Kenneth A. Keene, 81, of Winn, Michigan, died on Monday, January 13, 2014 in Bradenton, Florida. Kenneth was born July 5, 1932 to Duane A. and Coral B. (Howay) Keene in Winn. He married Marge Courser on April 7, 1956. They would have celebrated their 58th anniversary this April.
Kenny graduated from Shepherd High School in May 1950. He immediately enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 17, serving during the Korean Conflict. He served on the U.S.S. Calvert from June 1950 through 1953.
Ken, together with Marge, had three children, Patti and Lee Hohlbein, Robert Keene, and Richard Keene; five grandchildren, whom they dearly loved, Kimberly and Jason Ellis, Andy Hohlbein, Alana and Cole Keene, and Elyse Finnerty; and two great grandchildren that were very special to them, Gabrielle Catherine and Lucian Dayton Ellis. He is also survived by a sister, Marylou Lasich; brothers, Charles and Carole Keene, and Tom Keene; and many nieces, nephew and friends.
Ken and Marge spent winters in Bradenton, Florida, where they had many very close friends.
Kenny was a life-long learner. He recently obtained a computer, and had spent most of the last month learning how to use it. He never ceased to amaze us with his insight and intelligence, his daughter regularly told people that her father was the smartest person she knew.
Ken served as a role model to his children and grandchildren, he taught them the value of personal integrity, hard work and generosity, lessons they were shown daily by his example.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Coral; son, Rob in 1981; brother, Jack; and numerous brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws.
We love you and will miss you forever.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2014 at the Berry Funeral Home in Shepherd. Private Graveside Services will be held at Union Cemetery, Fremont Township.
