Kenneth B. Travis, age 82 of Shepherd, passed away Friday, March 15, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.
Funeral Service will be held at Berry Funeral Home in Shepherd, on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at 1 p.m., officiated by Pastor Kathy Kursch. Burial will take place at Salt River Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday March 19, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and also one hour prior to the service Wednesday.
Ken was born in Shepherd on May 23, 1930, the son of the late Herbert and Edith (Girven) Travis. He graduated from Shepherd High School in 1949 then attended Michigan State University until being drafted into the US Army in 1951. He served in the Korean War, seriously wounded in battle and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He married the love of his life, Georgia McClintic on August 15, 1953.
Ken was a farmer all his life. He worked as a State, then Federal meat inspector from 1968, until retiring in 1994.
Ken is survived by his wife, Georgia, of 59 years; five daughters, Virginia (Neil) Nelson, Catherine (Steve) Tupper, Patricia (Jim) Hoogerhyde, Kennajean (Ron) Rhynard and Delores (Bart IV) Jones; grandchildren Steffanie (Tupper) Hunt, Chad Tupper, Michael Tupper; Dan Hoogerhyde, Sarah Hoogerhyde, Melissa (Hoogerhyde) McMillan, Travis, Blake, Ian, Caleb and Kaylie Rhynard, Bart V, Mason and Travis Jones; nine great grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Wanda); three sisters, Elzada Erickson, Leota (Al) Barnikow, Joyce (Phillip) Leonard; and sister-in-law Louise Travis. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter June; grandson Joe Nelson; and brothers Marion and Norbert Travis.
