Louis "Lou" Richards Obituary
Louis "Lou" Richards, age 68, of Houghton Lake, MI, formerly of Alma, passed away on May 4, 2011 in Traverse City, MI. Visitation for Lou will be held at the Dewey Funeral Home in Alma today (Friday, May 6) from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday, May 7 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Carl Cecil of the Alma Wesleyan Church will officiate. Burial will take place in Wright Cemetery, Alma. Lou was born on July 31, 1942 in Alma to Cecil and Mildred (Rogers) Richards. He owned and operated Commercial Cleaning in St. Louis for many years. On January 1, 1977 he married Karen Bendele in Houghton Lake. Together they raised three children, Larry, Tami, and Lonnie. Lou worked at Van Atten's Plumbing and Heating for nine years, and later retired from Weatherby's Plumbing and Heating after 15 years. He was a lifetime member of the Alma Elk's Lodge. Lou's interests included hunting, fishing, and card playing. He was always there for anyone who needed a helping hand. Lou was an amazing husband, dad and Papa and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Surviving Lou are his wife of 34 years, Karen; his two sons, Larry and Lonnie (Karen) Richards, all of Alma; his daughter, Tami (Ben) Ludtke of Belleville, MI; his grandson, Izak Richards of Alma; and three brothers, Cecil "Sonny" Richards of Alma, Maynard "Bear" (Peg) Richards of St. Louis, and Danny "Butch" (Joanne) Richards of Farwell. Lou was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Louis, Jr.; and two infant sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Manor Hospitality House in Traverse City or to the . The family is being served by the Dewey Funeral Home of Alma.
