Marjorie was born on June 10, 1910 in McFall, MO, the daughter of John Robert and Elnorah (Palmer) Rainey. Marjorie was the youngest of four children. She married Leslie "Les" Karr on February 19, 1940 in Bryan, OH. She was a well known business woman. Marjorie and her husband, Les, owned and operated the New Yorker in downtown Mt. Pleasant for over 50 years. Her son Jack and wife Trudy continue to run the business to this day. The New Yorker is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and is the oldest continuing business in downtown Mt. Pleasant. Marjorie was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and caregiver. She took care of her mother for 8 years following a serious car accident and her husband for 15 years as he battled Parkinsons Disease. Marjorie was very active into her late nineties. She enjoyed gardening and was frequently spotted on her riding lawn mower with her Detroit Tiger's hat on. Marjorie loved to read, to do crossword puzzles, and to play 500 Rummy. She was also an avid sports fan, following not only Detroit's major teams, but also her grandchildren and great grandchildren's sports teams. At family gatherings, it was always requested that she make her homemade noodles and apple pie.
Marjorie is survived by son, Jack (Trudy) Karr of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Luke (Allison) Karr of Mt. Pleasant, Mike (Jessica) Karr of Lynn, MA, and Sherry (Mike) Pulverente of Mt. Pleasant; great grandchildren, Lakyn Karr, Morgan Karr, Bella Karr, Jacob Robinson, Makia Robinson, and Lauren Robinson; and many nieces and nephews, especially, Geraldine Prieskorn and Bob Folkert.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Les Karr in 1996; parents; brothers, Bill and Sky; and sister, Lois.
During the last four years of her life, Marjorie was blessed with several loving caregivers, Becky Granger, Sherry Pulverente, Deb Bardos, Robbin Lannen, Kristi Mosher, Marjorie Pierson, and last but not least, her loving son, Jack. The family would also like to thank Dr. Shankariah and Shelly.
