Mildred Arlene Bell Obituary
Bell, Mildred “MID” Arlene; age 95; of Clare; peacefully passed away on Monday, June 9, 2014. She was born on May 4, 1919 in Clare, Michigan to Archie and Anna Ackerman. She attended Phinisey school in Vernon Township that was a K-8 one room school house. While growing up on the farm, her favorite horse was “Old Jewel.” During her high school years in Clare, she met and fell in love with Willard (Bus) Bell. They graduated in 1937. On May 23, 1941 they eloped to Chattanooga, Tennessee where Bus was stationed in the army. During high school she worked at Polly Parrot’s Dime store in downtown Clare. Later on she became a telephone operator at Michigan Bell Telephone Company. She was a secretary for Judge William Dunlop at the Clare City Hall. In 1967, Bus and Mid opened Bell’s Men’s Wear. Among other jobs at the store, she pre-wrapped hundreds of Christmas boxes each season and provided the cookies for the store Christmas open house. In her retirement she enjoyed visiting with her friends while having tea and cookies at the Town and Country Restaurant. She enjoyed golfing, shopping, traveling to Florida, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events. She loved keeping the score. Her surviving family includes her children, Jane (John) Seibt of Clare, Archie (Lois) Bell of Holland and Jennie Frazier of Grand Rapids. She has seven grandchildren, Scott, Gabe (Janelle), Jonathan (Connie) Seibt, Brent (Kim) Converse, Sara (Jim) Mallard, Ashley(Chris) Bode, and Hillary Frazier. She has six great grandchildren, Rachel, Gabriel, Lauren, Matthew, Andrew and Thomas. Mid was preceded in death by her husband, Bus; and her son-in-law, Curtis Frazier. Mid was a cute, little lady, who lived a full life for 95 years in Clare. She will be missed by us all. Services for Mid will be held at the Clare United Methodist Church on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 1 p.m. with Pastor John Kasper officiating. Burial will be in the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clare. Friends may visit with the family at the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and again at the church on Thursday from 12 Noon until the time of the service. Memorials may be made to the Clare United Methodist Church. On-line guestbook at www.stephenson-wyman.com
