A Memorial Service for Norm will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at Lux Family Life Story Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Norm’s brother-in-law, Deacon Larry Fussman, officiating. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the service begins. Memorial contributions may be made to the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Norm was born August 25, 1941, in Lake, son of the late Clarence and Elizabeth (Watson) Vinton. He graduated from Barryton High School in 1959 and served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967, stationed in Germany. He was a proud member of the Third Battalion 84th Field Artillery Pershing Missile Group. He formed many special bonds with his army buddies, most of which still remain today. On May 8, 1971, Norm married Diane Abbey at First United Methodist Church. He was employed by Central Michigan Inns in Okemos until poor health forced him to retire at age 56. Some of his favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, dirt track auto racing, Nascar, and canoeing. But most dear to him was his family, his grandchildren and spending time on the family farm. Norm is survived by his wife of nearly 43 years, Diane Vinton; two children, Tina (Don) Gibbs of Indiana and Tony Vinton of Clare; six grandchildren, Brian (Alex) McKinstry Jr. of Evart, Caitlin Carpenter of Webberville, Jaidee (Tyler) Rodewig of Coleman, A.J. Vinton of Clare, Saige McKinstry, and Adam Zinger; great-grandsons, Eli Rodewig and Lane McKinstry; siblings, E. Lawrence (Pat) Vinton of Flint, Ruby Stanley of Chippewa Lake, Clarence (Mary Ann) Vinton of Manchester, Boneta (Harold) Hubbard of Linden, Evelyn (Bruce) Kent of Farwell, Kathy (Larry) Fussman of Mt. Pleasant, and R. Jim (Sid) Vinton of Coleman; and his extended family, Melissa Moore and her children, Heather, Tiffany and Zack; Brian McKinstry (Marci) Sr.; Carrie Sorenson and her children, Brandon, Katie, Skylar; Albert Grove; and finally, Norm’s faithful canine, Taffy (a.k.a. “Daughter Dog”). He was preceded in death by his parents; infant siblings, Thelma, Carl and Waneta; sister, Donna Ridley; brother, Jack Vinton; grandson, Jason Scott Vinton; two nephews, Rick Ridley and Andy Vinton; and two nieces, Sheila and Donise Stanley.
