Rachel Louise Shurtliff, age 87, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2013, at Woodland Hospice House.
Funeral Services for Rachel will be held at 2 p.m., (today) October 19, 2013, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1404 South Crawford Street, Mt. Pleasant. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the wishes of the family in care of Jay Shurtliff.
Rachel was born on January 21, 1926, in Orangeville, Utah, the daughter of Aaron and Rachel (Gunderson) Allred. She married Jay Haskill Shurtliff on September 3, 1948, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Rachel was a teacher with Mt. Pleasant Schools, having taught at Rosebush, Kinney and Vowles Elementary Schools until her retirement in 1968. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and the CMU Faculty Dames. Rachel enjoyed art and gardening.
Rachel is survived by her children, Cindy Lu Hills (Leon Tice) of Mt. Pleasant, Carla Louise (Robert) Jimison of Rexburg, ID, Lavana Ann Shurtliff, and Jay (Julie) Shurtliff, Jr., both of Mt. Pleasant; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother, William Russell Allred of Sandy, UT; and sister, Frances Sorenson of Chester, UT.
Rachel was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Shurtliff on December 23, 1999; brothers, Aaron Dean Allred, Anthon Venioy Allred, and Gary Allred; and one sister, Jeannine Mower.
