June 22, 1948-Oct. 30, 2012
Richard Allen Eccleston, 64, of Mount Pleasant, MI, and most currently a resident of Archer, FL, passed away at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center in Gainesville, FL, on October 30, 2012.
Richard was born June 22, 1948, to Joan and Floyd Eccleston of Mt. Pleasant, MI. The family owned and operated The Chippewa Archery Shop since 1947. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1966 and served in the United States Army on Okinawa, Japan. Upon returning home, he worked as an Oil Roustabout for Long and Wetzel in Mt. Pleasant. He attended Central Michigan University, where he earned his degree and began working in the sales division for Smith Tool/International. In 1991, he opened Old Mission Perennials in Mt. Pleasant and continued to operate the family's archery business.
After retiring, he moved to Archer, FL, where he kept his passion for archery by managing the family collection and sharing 'good old days' stories with other enthusiasts and his friends at the Fred Bear Museum. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fresh seafood, and the warm southern sun.
He is survived by his children, Ashley (Padraic) McMeel of Acworth, GA and Jeffrey (Kelly Sue) Eccleston of Traverse City, MI; and their mother, Melanie Main of Mt. Pleasant, MI, Beverley Rogers of Archer, FL; and three grandchildren, Samuel Hutchinson of Sand Lake, MI, and Logan and Casen McMeel of Acworth, GA; and many life long friends.
A Memorial Shoot will take place in Spring 2013.
