Mr. Robert E. Hogg, of Mecosta, passed away on September 26, 2013 shortly before his 87th birthday. He was born to Rolland and Myrtle Hogg of Mount Pleasant on September 28, 1926.
He loved farming, his Belgian draft horses, MSU basketball, and the Detroit Tigers. He worked for many years as a long-haul truck driver, delivering farm products all over North America, and developed an encyclopedic knowledge of highways and towns, which he never forgot.
He earned a Purple Heart in combat in the Korean War and was a member of the New Hope United Methodist Church in Mecosta.
His wife of nearly 60 years, Eloise (Hines) survives him. He is also survived by four of his children, Beth (Rev. Michael) Simon, Robert A. (Sue) Hogg of Remus; Barb (Jim) Baerwald of Eau Claire, and Dr. Nancy (Timothy G.) Hicks of Montague; 11 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He also leaves a brother, Ronald, of Tampa, Florida.
His son, John; and brother, Richard predeceased him.
Visitation will be Monday, September 30, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at New Hope United Methodist Church in Mecosta. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the church.
The family asks memorials go to Woodland Hospice or New Hope United Methodist Church.
