Roger was born Oct. 18, 1924, in St. Cloud, MN, the son of the late Norbert and Florence (Eckstein) Goenner. After graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1941, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a combat engineer during World War II from 1943-1946.
He married Alice Johnson on Nov. 27, 1947, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waite Park, MN, the same year he received his bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State.
