V. Max Berry, age 92 of Shepherd passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Masonic Pathways in Alma, MI.
Funeral Services will be Sunday, July 29, 2012 at 2 p.m. from the Shepherd United Methodist Church with Pastor Kathy Kursch, officiating. Interment will be in Salt River Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, July 27, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Berry Funeral Home.
Max was born March 14, 1920 in Kalkaska County to William Vear and Gladys (Baldwin) Berry. He married Carol J. Arnold June 22, 1941 in Bellaire, MI, she preceded him in death in 1994. He later married Sue Riley in 1996. Max was active in Local Government in Kalkaska County before moving to the Central Michigan area. After moving to Shepherd, he served on the Shepherd Village Council, Isabella County Board of Commissioners and various County Boards. Max was on the Central Michigan Community Mental Health Board for many years and served as its Chair for several years.
Max had always worked in the Agriculture Industry from seed and supplies sales to fertilizer sales and management. He operated the Sohigro Fertilizer Plant in Rosebush form 1969 until his retirement in 1983. After retirement, Max helped his son, Ralph, at the Berry Funeral Home. He was a member of the Shepherd United Methodist Church, Shepherd Rotary Club, Alma Masonic Lodge and was active in the Shepherd Sugar Bush and Festival Committee.
He is survived by 5 children, Dan (Judy) Berry of Snohomish, WA, Tom (Jeanne) Berry of Rapid City, SD, Ralph (Linda) Berry of Shepherd, MI, Don Berry of Vestaburg, MI, Marilyn (Tracy) Taylor of Eau Claire, WI; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth, Mary and Donna.
Memorials may be given to Shepherd United Methodist Church.
