Virgil Lee Dawson, age 85, of Alma, MI, passed away at MidMichigan Medical Center-Gratiot on Sunday, September 1, 2013. Visitation for Virgil will be held at the Dewey Funeral Home in Alma Wednesday (today), September 4, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the Community Baptist Church, at the corner of Superior and Purdy in Alma, on Thursday, September 5, 2013 at 1 p.m. Pastor Randy Brandon will officiate. Burial will take place in Pritchard Cemetery, Elwell.
Virgil was born on March 15, 1928 in Central Lake, MI to Edward and Grace (Ward) Dawson. He married Barbara Ann Coville in Middleville, MI on June 12, 1949. He graduated from Alma High School in 1971. After 39 years of service he retired from Lobdell Emery.
Virgil loved to hunt, fish, do woodcrafts and oil painting. He also had a collection of 200 caps.
Surviving Virgil are his wife, Barbara; 4 children, Dorothy Pellerito, Danny (Mae) Dawson, Mary (Kevin) McCoy, all of Alma, and Mike (Chris) Dawson of AL; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Jerry of Eastport, Roger (Janet) of Las Vegas, and Leonard (Elaine) of Bellaire; 2 sisters-in-law, Mardell of Bellaire, and Mary Lou of Harbor Springs.
Preceding Virgil in death were his brothers, Melvin and Roy, and his sister-in-law, Connie.
Virgil was a loving and caring man and will be greatly missed.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Community Baptist Church or the Commission on Aging.
The family is being served by the Dewey Funeral Home of Alma.
