Eileen Schafer Obituary
SCHAFER, EILEEN CLARE (HACKETT); age 95; of Mt. Pleasant; died Sunday, April 20, 2014. She was surrounded by her family as she made her final journey to be with her Father in Heaven, and many family members and friends waiting to welcome her there. God said to Eileen, “It’s time to go. There are no more seeds for you to sow. I’ll grant you peace and give you rest. Of all my children, you are one of the best. I’m taking you to heaven on high. Your family mustn’t say goodbye. ‘See you later,’ that will do, because I have prepared a place for all of you.” God called you home and although we’re sad, we’ll find comfort in memories of the times we have had. You were a devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and friend. Our love for you will never end. We’ll miss your smile, your laugh, your touch... we’ll see you later, we love you much!!! Eileen was born on October 22, 1918 in Mt. Pleasant to Thomas and Merle Hackett. She attended the old McCormick Country School and Sacred Heart Academy and had many fond memories of her school days. She married Oscar Schafer on December 28, 1940 and they were married for 59 years, until Oscar passed away on January 18, 1999. Eileen is survived by her children, Sally Wood of Mt. Pleasant, Tony (Sandy) Schafer of Mt. Pleasant, Sue (Walt) Ayers of Kawkawlin, Pat (Sue) Schafer of Newaygo, Tim (Sherry) Schafer of Mt. Pleasant, Sheilah (Rolla D.) Davis of Mt. Pleasant, and Kim (Bob) Nantelle of Mt. Pleasant; 32 grandchildren; 63 great grandchildren; 18 great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Irene Hackett, Ruth (Alfred) Klumpp, and Joyce Schafer of Weidman; and brother-in-law, Jerry (Bethel) Schafer of Mt. Pleasant. Eileen was preceded in death by both parents; brothers, Joseph, Lee, William, Paul, and Thomas; sisters, Ellen, Mary, Agatha, and Estelle; sons-in-law, Ronald Haiderer and Robert Wood; daughter-in-law, Diane Schafer; two grandsons, Steven Grace and Mark Wood; and one great-grandson, Nathaniel Haiderer. Eileen was a life-long area resident. She worked alongside her partner in life, Oscar, on the family farm for many years. She was a very active member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Winn. She belonged to the Alter Society, taught CCD classes, and was a Eucharistic Minister. She was an excellent cook and a friend to everyone. She always took time to listen to people. She loved to play euchre and visit casinos. In her retirement years, she and Oscar developed “Dream Lake” where the family made many, many wonderful memories. Mom, you have been our life long best friend. Whenever we had problems or needed guidance, you were always there for us. You gave us a beautiful example of what “Family” really means. You gave all of us the wonderful gift of faith, faith in one another, and faith in our Father. You may no longer be with us physically, but spiritually you will always be with us, until we all re-unite in Heaven with you and Dad. We love you, Mom! A Funeral Mass for Eileen will be held at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Winn on Wednesday, April 23 , 2014 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Thomas McNamara officiating.
