Michael ""Mick" Legene Obituary
Michael "Mick" Legene, age 67, of Alma, passed away at his home on Dec. 31, 2011 with his family at his side.
Mick was born in Richmond, Va. - the only child of Ralph and Lena Legene. He spent most of his childhood in Overland Park, Kan. before moving to Owosso, where he graduated from high school in 1963.
An avid aviation and airline buff, Mick worked for three airlines during the 1960s, TWA, Braniff and Northwest, before returning to Alma in 1970 to join his father in the family business - Alma Container Corp.
He met his wife, Kathy, in 1967 while both were attending North Central College in Petoskey. They were married in 1969 and had two sons - Jeff and Mike.
He greatly enjoyed traveling and fulfilled a dream of owning a travel agency (Downtown Travel in Alma). He and his family enjoyed cruises, cross country Amtrak train rides and numerous "flights of fun."
Another source of enjoyment for him was music from the 50s and 60s. He and his good friend Joe Vega had a DJ service for a number of years that gave them both a lot of pleasure.
Mick has been a well respected businessman, Alma city commissioner, a devoted and loving husband and father, loyal friend and an all around wonderful person who never had anything bad to say about anyone.
He had a great sense of humor and he kept that all through his battle with cancer.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathy; his sons, Jeff and Mike - both of whom he loved and was very proud of; extended family members and friends; and some very special friends including Dave Hagerman, Penny Beck, Roxanne Dayringer, and Mike Maybank and his family - Susan, David and Hali, all of whom were "there for him" when it really mattered.
Mick was preceded in death by his wonderful parents Ralph and Lena Lagene; and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 at 1 p.m. at the Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home with Deacon John Cremin officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Alma. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and Tuesday from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
