Calvin J. Timmins, age 86, of Alma, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Gratiot, after a long and courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma.
Funeral Services for Calvin will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 14, 2012 at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tom Brackbill officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma with a Masonic Memorial Service to be held Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m. Private Family Interment Services will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery, Alma. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.
Calvin was born September 28, 1926 in Traverse City the son of John and Jessie (Ruttan) Timmins. He attended schools in the Fife Lake School District and graduated from Kalkaska High School. He then went on to receive his Bachelors Degree in Accounting from Michigan State University. Shortly after graduation he married Eleanor Leonard on May 28, 1960 in Detroit. Calvin retired after many years of service with Michigan Chemical Company in St. Louis where he had worked as a salesman.
Calvin was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Alma, member and Past Master of Alma Lodge #244 F.A.&M., a 32nd Degree Mason with the Bay City Scottish Rite and a member of the Elf Khurafeh Shriner's. He was very active with the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children and had driven over 100 trips to the Hospital in Chicago. He was also a member of the Alma Elks Lodge #1400. Calvin enjoyed hunting and fishing, raising rasberries, taking care of his yard and watching birds at his feeder.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eleanor; three children, Susan (Robert) Hick of Sterling Heights, Daniel (Mary) Timmins of Clare and Deanna Timmins of Alma; three grandchildren, Matthew, Jairus and Sarah Timmins; two sisters, Bernice Hubbard of Venice, Florida and Betty (Fred) Hankla of Florida; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Edith May Timmins; two brothers-in-law, Wally Hubbard and Jim Leonard; and a niece, Barbara Leonard.
