Frederick A. Morton, age 59, of Holland, passed away at this home on January 19, 2013. He was born April 16, 1953 in Alma to Philip and Mary (Rauschenberger) Morton.
He was raised in St. Louis and graduated from St. Louis High School in 1971. When he was 18, Fred enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He spent 22 years in the Navy and saw a lot of the world, from Vietnam to Bahrain. Most of the time in the service he was on an admiral staff, serving different ones over his years in the Navy. Fred was a chief petty officer when he retired, receiving an honorable discharge. He returned to Michigan where he worked on the west side of the state for different company's.
Fred leaves behind his two children, Jennifer Morton of White Hall and Allyn Morton of U.S. Navy stationed in Maryland; his mother, Mary Morton of St. Louis; brother, Philip (Beverly) Morton of St. Louis; sister, Sandra (Wayne) Braun of Alma; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Philip Morton in 2011.
Per Fred's wishes cremation has taken place. There will be a Graveside Service with Military Rights on February 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Section in Riverside Cemetery in Alma. Following the Graveside Service friends and family will gather at the Alma Elks Club.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Berry Funeral Home in Shepherd.
