Laurence "Jack" Edward Burden, age 81, of Weidman passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Jack's life will take place at the Fraternal Order of Eagle's in Weidman on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. with The Rev. Nancy Casey-Fulton officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Jack was born on October 1, 1931 in Altona, MI, the son of Roy and Anna (Stine) Burden. He married Joan Marie Miller on June 31, 1950. Jack proudly served his country in the National Guard and worked as a carpenter for Strauss Brothers Construction for many years. He was a volunteer firefighter in Weidman for over 15 years. Jack was also a member of the Senior Citizens Group in Weidman and coached Little League. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing softball, woodworking, and being outdoors.
Jack is survived by his children, Kathleen (Ken) Stabelton, Patricia (Trevor) Swanson, David (Marilyn) Burden, and Edie (Leon) Bowerman; 6 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Harold Burden; sister-in-law, Kay.
Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Joan; granddaughter, Erika Bowerman; parents; brothers, Gale and Noel Burden; brother-in-law, Harry Welch; sister, Shirley Welch; and sister-in-law, Doris Burden.
