Mr. Harold E. Quackenbush, age 81, of Grand Haven, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. He was born February 4, 1932 in Mount Pleasant, MI to Harry and Marion (Kile) Quackenbush.
He served his country honorably during the
in the U.S. Army. After completing his Masters in Engineering, he spent the majority of his career designing farm equipment for Allis Chalmers and retired as Sr. Design Engineer from Toro Wheel Horse in 1999. He loved hunting, fishing, and farming. Anything that was broken, he could fix. He was a member of United Methodist Church of the Dunes, serving as Treasurer for several years. He was a proud graduate of
Michigan State University
and enjoyed following Spartan football and basketball.
On April 10, 1954 he married Dolores Taylor in Lake City, MI and she survives him; along with three children, Kent (Kang Hee) of Galesburg, IL, Judy of Chicago, IL, Scott (Rebecca) of Lake Bluff, IL; two grandchildren, Allison and Scotty. He is also survived by one sister, Helen Miller; one brother, Howard (Venila) Quackenbush; sister-in-law, Shirley Ann (Lewis) Finkel; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by parents, Harry and Marion; brother-in-law, Oral Miller.
Funeral Services will be 12 Noon Friday, May 3, 2013 at the United Methodist Church of the Dunes with Rev. Daniel Duncan officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven and one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Lakeshore Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Harold may be given to United Methodist Church of the Dunes or Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
