Gala (Welsh) Casner Obituary

Gala Welsh Braun Casner of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan passed away on Monday, October 14, 2013 at her home.
Gala was born on February 16, 1918 in Union Township, Isabella County, Michigan the daughter of Florence (Knowles) and Wesley G. Welsh. She resided in the Mt. Pleasant area most of her life. She attended the Townline country school in Union Township and later as a young woman moved to Lansing to work at the Lansing Children's Home as a day nurse.
Gala married John C. Braun in June of 1947 in Mt. Pleasant and resided in Lansing until 1949. He preceded her in death in 1949. Gala later worked at the Economy Dime Store in Mt. Pleasant. She married Lloyd S. Casner in November of 1964 in Mt. Pleasant. He preceded her in death in 1989. Gala resided in Canterbury Apartments for over thirty years where she made many friends over the years.
Gala is survived by her daughter, Sherry (George) Sponseller of Mt. Pleasant; granddaughter, Michelle Sponseller of Mt. Pleasant; grandson, Brian (Jill) Sponseller and great grandchildren, Riley and Lillian Sponseller of Mt. Pleasant. She is also survived by her stepson, Thomas C. Braun (Joyce) of Lansing, step-son, Merle C. Braun (Sally) of Fowler; step-daughter, Johanne Jenks (Gayle) of Stanton; nieces, Janet Phelps (Clayton) of Texas, Sharon McBride (Lyle) of Mt. Pleasant and by many step-grandchildren.
Gala was preceded in death by her parents, Florence and Wesley G. Welsh; brother, Edward Welsh; sister, Aleatha Grace; husbands, John C. Braun and Lloyd Casner; and step-daughters, Mary Jane Barnes Bingham and Arlene Appelgreen.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 11 a.m. from the Rowley Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Vredeveld officiating. Friends and family will gather on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery following the funeral service. Those planning to make an expression of sympathy may do so to the Food for Friends program with the Isabella County Commission on Aging. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
