Ethel Maxine Helman Obituary
May 12, 1916 - Oct. 27, 2013

Ethel Maxine Helman, age 97, of Middleton, entered her eternal home on Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Country Friends AFC with her children by her side.
Ethel was born on May 12, 1916 in New Haven Township, the daughter of Reuben and Dona (Hayden) Yutzey. She graduated from Carson City High
School. She married Edward Helman on November 7, 1935. Together they had four children, Carolyn, Evelyn, Lee, and Eldon. They also opened their home to a German "son", Helfried Muelbach. After 48 years together, Edward passed away on December 27, 1983. She married Christopher Sower on July 26, 1992, and he passed away on May 30,
Ethel lived most her life in the home she was born in. She was a
homemaker and also worked at Carson City Hospital as a nurse's aid.
Ethel was a devoted member of New Haven Church of the Brethren and served the church in many ways. She was always active in the Women's Fellowship and opened her home many times to host special speakers. Most of all she was a wonderful mother and her favorite job was being a loving grandmother. Ethel loved having company and anyone who visited knew they would be served a fresh sugar cookie with a raisin in the middle. When serving a meal to company, her speciality was fried chicken, baked beans, potato salad, and a homemade pie.
She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn and Wally Waldron; and son, Eldon and Janice Helman, all of Middleton; her grand- children, Jeff and Shelle Waldron, Doug and Pam Waldron, Deb and Scott Stehlik, Lori and Greg Wolfe, Lisa and Cortney Collison, Kristie and Dan Falor; 14 great grandchildren, Clayton and Cameron Waldron, Collin, Brayden and Kara Waldron, Colton and Evan Stehlik, Jayvin and Lyndsi Wolfe, McKaylee, Zachary and Liberty Collison, Raegan and Ainsley Falor; sister-in-law, Florence Yutzey; brother-in-law, Harold Helman; many nieces and nephews; and step-children, John, Chuck, Bill and Margaret Sower.
Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; infant children, Carolyn and Lee; three sisters, Bess Pino, Agnes Atkinson, and Bertha Hinton and brothers Homer and Raymond.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the New Haven Church of the Brethren, on Grant Road, with Pastors Randall Roose and Brian Ruth officiating. Interment will be in New Haven Center Cemetery. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Haven Church of the Brethren Building Fund.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Lux and Dodge Memorial Chapel, Middleton. To view Ethel's obituary or to leave a condolence for the family please visit
