Clifford F. Hand, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at the Woodland Hospice House, near Mt. Pleasant. Cliff was born on December 16, 1935, in Petoskey, Michigan, the son of Millard R. and Alta M. (Bailey) Hand. On September 10, 1960, he married Charlotte Ann Casteel. Charlotte preceded him in death on May 17, 1999. On October 4, 2008, he married Suzanne Brittain.
Cliff was employed as the Stock Coordinator for Diamond Reo in Lansing for 16 years, a Dairy Farmer in Petoskey for 2 years, and worked at Dura Manufacturing for 10 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant and enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and feeding his pets, also known as the trout in his pond. Cliff had the trout trained to follow him around the pond as he fed them. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from August 17, 1955 to May 16, 1958. Cliff worked hard to provide for his family.
Survivors include: his wife, Suzanne; children, Thomas and Joyce Hand of Petoskey, Melinda and Linn Wright of Petoskey, and Kristie Boettcher and her friend, Robert Feinauer of Auburn; step-children, Russell and Judy Brittain of Mt. Pleasant, John and Tracy of Blanchard, Warner and Shelly of Wheeler, Allison and Gary Darnell of Mt. Pleasant, and Evelyn and Brian Darnell of Beal City; 13 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; brothers, Gail and Pauline Hand, Merle and Jane Hand, Lewis and Liz Hand, Robert Hand, Jerome and Margaret Hand, and John and Becky Hand; also 2 sisters, Kate and Francis Schantz and Carmen and Earl Waite. Cliff was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte; both parents; brothers, Garth and Millard; and sisters, Betty, Jean, Vera and Edith.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 1 p.m. from the Rowley Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant, with Dr. Stephen Shugert, retired Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Friends and family will gather on Thursday, January 2 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A Graveside Committal Service will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Petoskey, Michigan with Pastor James Mitchum officiating. A gathering for family and friends will follow at the Petoskey United Methodist Church.
