Tommie Bauer

1938 - 2015

Bauer, Tommie; age 77; of Farwell; passed away Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland. He was born the son of John and Thelma (Colmus) Bauer on March 6, 1938, in Clare. Tommie had served his country in the U.S. Army and was a self employed excavator. He was the proud owner of Tommie Bauer Excavating in Farwell which is now owned and operated by his son, Chad. Tommie was famous for his Christmas Lights Display and his #19 Tommie Bauer Racing team, which has logged countless miles at the I500 track. He had attended all but two of the I-500 Snowmobile races in Sault Ste. Marie from 1969 to the present. He was also a die-hard Dale Earnhardt and Kyle Busch Nascar fan. Survivors include his son, Chad Bauer of Farwell, his daughter, Kim Bauer of Cadillac, and his significant other Liana Bennett. Grandchildren, Cody and Kirsten Bauer of Farwell and one great-grandchild, Brooklynn Bauer. His sisters, Carrie Garver and Kathleen Shayler both of Clare, his special niece and nephew, Scott and Becky Bauer, and his faithful German Shepherd, Radar. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Elizabeth Wilbur, brothers, John “Jack” and Robert. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 2 p.m. from the Clare Church of the Nazarene with pastor Jim Young officiating. Burial will be in the Surrey Twp. Cemetery. Friends may meet with his family at the Farwell Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home on Monday from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Tommie Bauer I500 memorial fund; checks to be made out to: The I500 at 11589 East Village Road, Sault St. Marie, Michigan 49783 in care of Jan Bailey.
