MT. STERLING — Omar Dean Marshall, 85, of Mt. Sterling, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014 at his home.

He was born Nov. 16, 1928 in Granger, Iowa, the son of O.T. and Maude (Shelton) Marshall.

Dean was a lifelong farmer and active in his community. He was a Range Township Trustee for 32 years, one of the founding board members for the Sterling Joint Ambulance District, and on the Madison County Regional Planning Commission.

Dean was a stranger to no one and especially enjoyed his friendships with his lunch buddies and staff at Ben and Joy's. He helped his boys on the farm, enjoyed riding around in his golf cart, and meeting with his brothers.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Faith; parents; sisters, Helen Bartley and Orena Haynes; daughter-in-law, Betty.

He is survived by sons, Dennis, Jeff (Susan); grandchildren, Adam (Sarah), Carrie (Brian), Sarah (Chad); great-grandchildren, Emily and Brennan; brothers, Wayne and Lee Marshall; and his faithful dog Annie.

A Funeral service was held 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the PORTER-TIDD FUNERAL HOME, 331 W. Main St., Mt. Sterling. Rev. Gordon Ell officiated. Interment followed in Bethel Cemetery. Family received friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 11.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Sedalia Church of Christ in Christian Union, Sterling Joint Ambulance District, or Range Township Fire Department. Envelopes will be provided at the funeral home.
