A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Lafayette for Dr. Albert Wayne Beacham, 80, who peacefully passed away surrounded by his family Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at his residence in Lafayette. Visitation will be observed at Fountain Memorial Funeral Home in Lafayette on Friday, November 29, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and resumes Saturday, November 30, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Lafayette from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Reverend Mark Benge, of First United Methodist Church in Lafayette, will officiate. Dr. Beacham was born Friday, May 12, 1933 in Hattiesburg, MS. He graduated from Carthage High School in Carthage, MS in 1951. Following in the footsteps of his uncles, he moved to New Orleans to pursue a career in medicine. He graduated from Tulane
University Medical School in 1958. Upon completion of medical school, he interned at Charity Hospital in New Orleans followed by a residency in Urology. A fellowship in Pathology and Internal Medicine was awarded afterwards. It was in New Orleans that he met and married Sarah Elizabeth Young in 1958. Together they moved to Acadiana in 1963 and Dr. Beacham embarked upon a successful medical practice with Drs. Thomas Latiolais and Tom Kimbrough. Dr. Beacham practiced medicine from Southwestern Mississippi to the Acadiana Parishes, always making friends along the way. He was loved and revered by his patients and his medical practice was the crowning achievement of his life. Dr. Beacham was an avid sportsman with a love for hunting and fishing. His adventures in the outdoors carried him as far away as Mongolia and kept him as close to home as Pecan Island. But his favorite place was "The Camp" in his beloved Mississippi where he enjoyed time spent with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sarah Beacham of Lafayette; two sons, John Bret Beacham of Greenville, SC and Timothy Young Beacham of Bend, OR; daughter-in-law, Hope Beacham; two beloved grandchildren, Meagan Rene and Avery Elizabeth of Clemmons, NC; brother, Harry Felder Beacham, Sr. and his wife Jane of McComb, MS; sister, Sissy Beacham of Gulfport, MS; nephews, William Wayne Beacham of Clarksdale, MS, Harry Felder Beacham and his wife Shannon of Baton Rouge, Dr. Woody Beacham of Gulfport, MS and niece Jennifer Jane Clement and her husband John of Seoul, South Korea. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Wayne Beacham and Ruby Dexter Beacham and his older brother, Thomas Henry Beacham.
