June Collins Obituary

June Ann Sasak Collins, of Slidell, LA, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2015. She was 74 years old. She is survived by Scott Collins, her loving husband of 53 years, her daughter, Virginia Collins-Llope, her son, Richard Collins, and her five grandchildren, Daniel, Joseph, and Clare Llope and Sara Allyson and Christopher Collins. Daughter of the late John and Eva Sasak. Sister of the late Floyd Diehl. June graduated from Frontier High School in Hamburg, NY and then completed a medical technology degree from Michigan Technological University. During her husband's military career, she created a loving home wherever they were stationed. She was a supportive and very involved grandparent, who, despite several obstacles, continued to host them for visits including the annual TYC sail camp. June gave generously of her time to community service in all of the many places she called home. Some of her valued contributions include: sewing beautiful outfits to be sent to needy kids in Africa, serving as the Citizen Mayor of Camp King at Oberursel, Germany, where she also helped several GI's obtain their GED's, and volunteering for Reading for the Blind. She was a member of and held leadership positions in many organizations, including the Army Officers' Wives' Club, the Slidell Newcomers Club, and the Tammany Yacht Club. She was a charter member of a chapter of the Red Hat Society and an active participant in tai chi exercise even when her body said "enough." She was a cherished mother-in-law, who will be missed by Rick Llope and Michelle Collins. June was a supportive and comforting friend who always made time for a chat or to prepare a meal for anyone in difficulty. She was a talented seamstress and loved working on several forms of needlework: quilting, cross-stitching, and crocheting. She sewed doll clothes for her granddaughters. New babies in her social circles received one of her beautifully crocheted baby blocks; she assembled countless of these beloved blocks over the past several decades. June was an accomplished baker and we will all miss her wonderful desserts; especially her French Silk Pie. Her last creation was hot cross buns for Easter this year. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Christ Episcopal Church, 1534 7th Street, Slidell, LA, on Friday, April 17, 2015, at 3:00 P.M. I can still recall the first time we met...about 25 years ago. We knew instantly we would be fast friends. Then again, you have that effect on everyone. I will miss your warmth, love and support.

You will probably view this as the next adventure, always the optimist. I bid you a fond farewell for now, until we meet again.

I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to meet such an amazing woman.

My thoughts and prayers are with all who have to carry on without her bright light.

For as long as I have known June Collins I have felt the love and light she emanated to all that she came in contact with. June knew how to let those around her feel loved, cherished and special. I am honored to have called her a friend. Bless you Scott for sharing your beautiful partner with the world. Together you created a powerful blend of love, gentleness and "just good manners", as Miss June would say!
Love to all of the Collins Family.

This candle reminds me of how bright the light of June's friendship has shone! She was my confidant, my supporter and most of all my friend. I am better for knowing June. There will only be one Mamadore, one Mama nag (as she use to say). I will miss our lunches, our talks and the Christmas cookie exchange. I will miss June.
To June's family: she spoke of you often. She loved being your Mother, a wife to Scott and being a grandmother. Her bright smile would light up her face when she spoke of each of you. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you mourn June's final battle and loss of life.

(June's 1st cousin, Dorothy DiOrio)
June was a delight. She welcomed me for holidays, prepared feasts for 12 at a time, loved being a grandmother, mother and wife. She had endless talents and was the truest of friends. She was also one of the most courageous human beings I have ever known. I shall miss her greatly as well as her frequent inspirational emails. I extend my profound sympathy to her wonderful family and deeply share their sadness. Dottie
