Stephen Scalia Obituary

Stephen Scalia, age 91, passed away at his residence in the French Quarter on July 15, 2015. Mr. Scalia was born in New York City and was a resident of New Orleans, La for most of his life. He was an advertising executive for Arthur Advertising and later owned his own advertising company, Scalia advertising. He was a WWII Army veteran having worked directly for President Eisenhower. Mr. Scalia was very active in the community, having been a member and an officer of the Community Concerts Association, one of the original members and benefactors of the WWII Museum, also a member of the Vieux Carre Association and spent much of his life as an advocate for the Preservation of the French Quarter. Mr. Scalia received the prestigious Vieux Carre Commission award in 1960 for his residence at 620 Governor Nichols. He also enjoyed traveling to Europe, and most of all loved spending time in Paris. Mr. Scalia is preceded in death by his parents and his lifelong partner, Milton Melton. He is survived by his sister; Mary Helen Petrere, nephews; Peter Murphy and Thomas Murphy, and one niece Mary Elizabeth Murphy. A visitation will be held at 9am on Monday July 20, 2015 at St. Louis Cathedral with a Memorial Mass to begin at 10am and the inurnment to follow at Metairie Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to The National World War II Museum of New Orleans, 945 Magazine Street New Orleans, LA 70130. Arrangements entrusted to Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home.

Steve and Milton were amazing people to the core. Coming from Fl and having my father live in their amazing property was an experience I will carry with me forever. Still have cuttings of the plants they kindly shared . Amazing men and friends! You will be deeply missed.
