Alkaney "Al" Francis Cummings, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps who proudly served his country, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2013 at the age of 72. He was the son of the late Alkaney Cummings and Antoinette Trapani. He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Janice Johnson Cummings. Loving father of Mike Cummings (Michelle), Pat Cummings and Colleen Cummings Fury. Brother of Nell Giallanza, Kay Smith and the late Donnie Cummings. Proud grandfather of Michael, Courtney, Casey & Jordan Cummings and Sam & Ali Fury. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, friends, and especially his hunting partner of 30 years Johnny Brechtel and his dear Mary. Al was a longtime resident of Chalmette, LA where he was the owner of Cummings Furniture, and a current resident of Picayune, MS since 2005. He will be forever remembered as a loving and loyal husband, father, grandfather and brother, who loved his country and treasured his family. The family would like to express our thanks and gratitude to the many doctors, nurses and staff at St. Bernard Parish Hospital for their thoughtfulness and kindness to our "Mr. Al" during his illness. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Saturday, September 14th from 10:00AM – 11:30AM, followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 11:30AM. Burial will be private.
