Carl Winford Beard, 83, resident of Las Vegas since 1990, departed this earth on February 25, 2014 at 1:58 p.m. with his family by his side. Carl was born in Indianola, Mississippi on September 25, 1930 to Carl Houston Beard and Willie Celeste Beard. After graduating from Tulane University in New Orleans, he served two years in the Air Force. He was employed by IBM for 34 years before he retired in 1990 to Las Vegas. He touched the lives of so many people and was the pillar of his family. He had a wonderful sense of humor and beautiful blues eyes that lit up when he smiled. He was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Emily Scariano; four children, Cathy Kohlenberger, Pam Cornelius, Hal Beard, and David Beard; 10 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2014 from 10:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. with services proceeding at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana 70124.
