Age 91, Dallas F. Shaw, born, August 24, 1922 in Alpha, Illinois to the late Erlo E. and Bertha L. Smith Shaw. He went to his heavenly home on Sunday, February 23, 2014. He was a veteran of the U.S. AAF. Dallas was a Bronze Star recipient and a hero of the war in the South Pacific. He was last stationed at Key Field in Meridian, MS and then transferred to Hammond Airfield until he was honorably discharged in Oct. 1945. Dallas met his wife, Kathleen "Kay" Pickett, while stationed in Hammond, where they spent many happy years together. He was a longtime employee of Stafford Furniture in Hammond. Dallas was also influential in teaching a generation of appliance repairmen at the Hammond Area Vocational School as an instructor for many years and while there he met fellow employee, Ronnie Daniels, and his wife Sheree, who became his very close friends and caretakers. Dallas leaves behind his siblings, William K. Shaw, Camp Point, IL, Lois A. Johnson, Longview, TX, Donald E. Shaw, Geneseo, IL, Mary L. Hackl, Savoy, IL, John R. Shaw, Davenport, IA. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and his beloved friends; Ronnie and Sheree Daniels. Preceding Dallas in death were his wife of 40 years, Kathleen; parents, Erlo & Bertha Shaw and a brother, Robert E. Shaw. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Heritage Healthcare Center of Hammond and LifeSource Hospice Services of Baton Rouge for the special care they provided for Dallas. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond, on Saturday, March 1, 2014 from 9 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Rev.
