Fr. Donald Louis Duffy passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the age of 90. He was the beloved son of the late Michael Duffy and Margaret Gowan Duffy. Brother of the late Marguerite Mojzis, Rita McCullough, Raymond Duffy, Eugene Duffy, Jim Duffy and Wilfred Duffy. He is also survived and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Father Duffy was born in Cleveland Ohio on February 5, 1924. He attended elementary and high schools in the Cleveland area. Before entering college, he served in the U.S. Army, Infantry from 1943-1945, where he was awarded several purple hearts with oak leaf clusters. His college days were a in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Louisville. His seminary training was at Our Lady of the Lake, Mt. St. Mary's of the West and Our Lady of the Fields, Glenmary Theologate, all in Ohio. He was ordained a priest for the Glenmary Missioners on May 23, 1959. He served with his order in Georgia, Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky before coming to New Orleans in 1982. He was appointed associate pastor of St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Arabi in 1982, He served as associate pastor of St. Matthew the Apostle, River Ridge, and was named pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish, Edgard on June 30, 1990. He was incardinated in the Archdiocese of New Orleans on April 23, 1985. He retired from active ministry on July 3, 1999. He had been residing at St. Anthony Parish, Lafitte prior to his time at Our Lady of Wisdom. Well done, good and faithful servant! Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. ANTHONY CHURCH, 2653 Jean Lafitte Blvd., Lafitte, LA 70067 on Thursday, April 3rd from 9:00AM - 11:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:30AM. In lieu of flowers, donations to Fr. Duffy's Scholarship Fund can be made through St. Anthony in Lafitte. Burial will be private.
