Edward H. Arnold, Jr. passed away from natural causes on January 1, 2014. He graduated from Jesuit High School in 1943 then attended Tulane University but interrupted his studies to serve at the conclusion of World War II in the Navy. He returned to Tulane where he earned his Bachelor's of Electrical Engineering in 1948. Mr. Arnold remained active in the Naval Reserve for over 20 years ultimately achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander. After working for IBM, Boeing and Barnes Electric, he joined the Sewerage and Water Board in 1959. In 1978 he transferred to the City of New Orleans Utility Department. In total he served the City of New Orleans for over 37 years as an electrical and utilities engineer. During his career Mr. Arnold was involved in numerous public works and utility regulatory matters in the City including, drainage projects, lighting projects, the initial cable TV ordinance and licensing, the Grand Prix Du Mardi Gras, the temporary and permanent casino, the 1984 World's Fair including the permitting and safety plan for the Mississippi Aerial River Transit gondola, the Taxi Cab Bureau, tow truck ordinances and the Vieux Carre lighting plan and policies. He also taught for many years at the New Orleans Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee preparing countless men and women to become competent electricians. He was also active in the industry and trade organizations, notably serving as a Board Member and President of the local chapter of the American Public Works Association. Eddie will be remembered as a caring husband, father, brother and true civil servant. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward H. Arnold and Loulie Marie Killian Arnold. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Helen Cooper Arnold; his children, Helen E. "Missy" Arnold, Edward H. "Hank" Arnold, III (Gina), Robert Malcolm Arnold, Gregory D. Arnold; and his sister, Catherine L. Arnold. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Ashley Arnold, Chip Arnold, and Cooper Arnold. The family offers special thanks to the staff of Covenant Home for the compassionate care received. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation and memorial services on Monday, January 6, 2014 at ST. FRANCIS ASSISI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 631 State Street, New Orleans, Louisiana, 70118. There will be a visitation beginning at 10:00 o'clock a.m. and a memorial mass at 11:00 o'clock a.m. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Jesuit High School.
