Edwin J. Laizer, Jr., age 87, passed away on April 26, 2014. He was born June 14, 1926 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Survivors include his beloved wife of 36 years, Martha Miller Laizer; his daughter, Dr. Janet T. Laizer (Robert Angelo); his son, Edwin C. Laizer (Rhonda); his sister, Diane M. Laizer Carney; his grandchildren, Denise C. Baran, Brooke A. Laizer and Edwin Grant Laizer; stepsons Mark M. Ferguson (Jane Anne) and John M. Ferguson; stepdaughters Sarah H. Ferguson and Laura I. Ferguson; nephew Ian W. Carney (Eleanor); and step-grandchildren Ryan Ferguson, Kathryn Ferguson and Michael Ferguson. He was a 1943 graduate of Holy Cross High School and a 1948 geology graduate of Tulane University. He served as an officer in the United States Navy and was assigned to the U.S.S. Shadwell during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific and the occupation of Japan. He was Honorably Discharged as a Lieutenant on October 20, 1961. He worked for Freeport-McMoRan for 33 years and retired in 1987 as manager of purchasing. He then worked as a consultant and salesman for Standard Supply & Hardware Co. for 7 years, retiring in 1994. He was a past President of the Purchasing Management Association of New Orleans and was the recipient of that organization's Emile L. Morvant Outstanding Member Award for 1984-85. He was also a past Vice-President of District 2 of the National Association of Purchasing Managers. He was an avid golfer and was a member of Colonial Golf and Country Club for 38 years. He was a world traveler, both for business and pleasure. He was well read on a wide variety of subjects and was always up to date on the latest in technology. He loved animals, particularly dogs, of which he was master and friend to many over the years. His caring, love, humor, leadership, wisdom and advice will be missed by all who knew him. We were truly blessed to have him in our lives. Mr. Laizer was the son of Edwin J. Laizer, Sr. and Adeline V. Laizer, both of whom preceded him in death. A memorial service will be held at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, on Monday, April 28, 2014.
