Floyd John Kilrain Hepting passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013, at the age of 88. Floyd is survived by beloved daughter Susan Hepting Cox; brothers William Hepting and Robert Hepting; grandchildren Lindsey Hepting and Shanna Hepting; great-grandchildren Nicollette, Kaiden and Myiah and his best friend Peggy Heptling. Floyd is preceded in death by his son David Hepting; parents Emily Weiser Hepting and Floyd Hepting. In 1948 Floyd helped found American Radio Association a maritime labor union of master radio electronics offices aboard US flag ocean going ships which still exists today. He was elected to National Council in 1948 for the Port of New Orleans. He served in that position for over 50 years. He was elected President in 2004 and designated as President Emeritus in 2012. He served as a Merchant Marine during WWII. He was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church and an Eagle Scout. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, 2013. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
