John Barnes, age 75, passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at West Jefferson Medical Center. He was a longtime resident of San Francisco, California, a recent resident of Hammond, Louisiana, and a United States Marine Corps Veteran. John loved city life, and frequenting restaurants, especially if they served his favorite food, a good steak. He had a great appreciation for a variety of musical genres, and although he traveled extensively, nothing could compare to his affinity for the New Orleans' French Quarter. He was an avid Apple technology and product enthusiast, even during the company's early days. As a successful writer, John found great fulfillment. His extensive collection of short stories may be viewed online at johnbarnes.me. John leaves behind his daughter and son-in-law, Tracie and Jerry Nelson; grandsons, Tyler and Nicholas Nelson; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Betsy Barnes; nieces and nephews, Bruce and Rick Barnes, and Torey Young. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Barnes, and parents, Louis and Pauline Barnes. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial service, conducted by Deacon Nat Garofalo, on Monday, December 30, 2013 at 2:00 pm, with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm, from the chapel of Brandon G.
