John Charles "Jack" Hart, M.D. passed away on February 27, 2014. He was 81 years of age, a native of Gowanda, NY, and a resident of Marrero, LA for the past 38 years. He was born on May 22, 1932 to the late Charles Hart and the late Florence Bird Hart Setter. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 41 years, Leslie Brown Hart; their children and spouses John Hart, Jr., M.D. (Kim Geisz Hart, M.D.) of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Stuart Hart, M.D. (Jennifer Nielsen Hart, M.D.), Daniel Hart (Laurin Edmonson Hart), Michael Hart (Nancy Cutts Hart), J. Christopher Hart, Jack Hart of Las Vegas, NV, and Shannon Vicari; his twelve grandchildren John Jacob, Jenna, Stuart Jr., Spencer, Evan, Reed, and Grace Hart; Abigail Hart Stiel, M.D. (Donnie); Caitlin, Michael, and Conor Hart; and Alexandria Vicari. Also survived by his sister Victoria Prestrud of Seattle, WA, brother-in-law James E. Brown (Sandy), several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. Dr. Hart was an Ear, Nose, and Throat Specialist who established his practice on the West Bank in 1966 and served the community for 34 years before retiring in 2000. He was a graduate of Seaside High School in Seaside, OR. He attended Oregon State College, the University of Washington, and graduated from the University of Washington Medical School. His training included a Rotating Internship at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, a General Surgery Residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital in New Orleans, and an ENT Residency at Charity Hospital. He was also a Captain in the U.S. Air Force, serving as a medical flight officer for two years. Dr. Hart served on the medical staff at West Jefferson Medical Center in Marrero, Meadowcrest Hospital in Gretna, and St. Charles General Hospital in Luling. He served on the Medical Records Committee, Quality Assurance Committee, and was Chief of Surgery at West Jefferson in 1983 and 1984. He pioneered the use of the operating microscope at West Jefferson and the use of the fiberoptic scope in his practice. He was a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society, Jefferson Parish Medical Society, American Academy of Otolaryngology, and Centurion Society. Jack had a great energy for life, and treasured the time spent with friends and family. His hobbies included fishing, clamming, bicycling, logging, gardening, and reading. He enjoyed countless wonderful fishing trips at his camp near Wiggins, MS. He loved traveling throughout the country with Leslie in their RV. Since his retirement, they have enjoyed spending summers at their home in Seaside, OR. Jack was blessed to remain healthy, fit, and active for over 80 years. A visitation will be held at MOTHE FUNERAL HOME, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 from 6PM until 10PM. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 8AM until 11AM. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11AM.
