John H. Schulkens, Jr, age 96, passed away on Monday, November 11, 2013 after a brief illness. Mr. Schulkens was a native and resident of New Orleans, LA for 92 years and a recent resident of Hammond, LA. Survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, Catherine Venezia Schulkens. Father of Cynthia Schulkens Styron (husband Richard). Grandfather of John Richard Styron (wife Ileana). Great grandfather of Hayden Elizabeth Styron, step grandfather of Ryan L. Styron (wife Rebecca), great step grandfather of Rachael, Stephanie and Jackson. Brother of Alice Mae Schulkens Scurria (husband Salvador) and the late Dorothy Schulkens, Thelma Schulkens Tilloy (husband Paul, deceased), Stanley Schulkens (wife Dorothy, deceased) and Allen Schulkens. Son of the John H. Schulkens, Sr. and Alice Mullet Schulkens. Mr. Schulkens was retired from Wyeth Laboratories (now Pfizer) where he worked for 36 years as a Pharmaceutical Representative. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, a parishioner of St, James Major Church for many years and served as an Usher for 32 years until moving to Hammond where he is now a parishioner of Holy Ghost Church. He was a Grand Knight of Gentilly Knights of Columbus 2925. President of the East New Orleans AARP Chapter. He was also a member of Alhambra, the Pharmaceutical Club (PRANO), and member of the American Legion Post 203, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Diamond Club of New Orleans where he was named in their Softball Hall of Fame. Mr. Schulkens will be remembered for his love of sports and dancing. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass to be celebrated in the Chapel of Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, LA on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 1:30 P.M. with visitation at the funeral home beginning at 10:30 A.M.
